Throughout history, Jordan played host to a multitude of civilizations which contributed to establishing modernJordan. The land of Jordan has, at one time or another, hosted the great empires and armies of Ancient Iraq, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Persia, Ancient Greece, Rome, Ammonite, Edomite, Canaanite, Moabite, Phoenician, Ghassanid empires, among others; and has excursions by everyone from the Hittites to Himyarites, and from the Hebrews to Hamites.

All of these elements, along with the spiritual legacy of the Prophets and saints-including Abraham, Moses, Jesus and the Prophet Muhammad ( Peace and Blessing be upon them all)- who have personally graced the land of Jordan with their presence at one time or another, made up the essence of the Jordanian heritage and give its tremendous diversity and originality.

This diversity enhanced the cultural heritage of the country and contributed in enriching the formation of its pluralistic society.
