Cairo-based designer-jeweler Dima Rashid, turning towards an all gold look, believes that today’s gold jewelry should be passed from mother to daughter. She takes a sophisticated, fashion-forward ethnic route , working in creamy colored gold, recalling ancient Egyptian ornaments, layering sensual jangling clusters of gold beads, that also revived the 80s use of massive gold coins, taking gold back to its roots.”I am mesmerized by the effect of gold on the skin, the glow and warmth it adds to our bodies”.
Dima’s inspiration for her recent collection was to mix the two cultures, the West and East, in using solid gold pieces, brushed gold balls, a mix between the West in its boldness, glamour, sophistication and the East with its exotic femininity.
